A documentary series produced by Terminal 9 Studios, ICON(S) is dedicated to the greatest Houses whose creations have become cultural references. Each episode focuses on an icon, its origins, and the legacy of an emblematic creation, its impact and global resonance, across generations and cultural differences. ICON(S) reveals how these icons have shaped our cultural heritage and sometimes redefined established rules.
ICON(S): Maison Francis Kurkdjian thus revisits the genesis of the creation of Baccarat Rouge 540 and traces the steps of a unique artistic conversation between Francis Kurkdjian and five friends of the Maison: David Chalmin, Katia and Marielle Labèque, Anne-Sophie Pic, and Elias Crespin. All received the same mission: to interpret Baccarat Rouge 540 in their own way and to embody, through their art, their technique, and their expertise, the alchemy of crystal in the transformation from Red to Gold.
Inspired by sounds collected within the Baccarat Manufactory and the clicking of sperm whales, composer David Chalmin creates a contemporary piece for two pianos, performed by Katia and Marielle Labèque, a world-renowned piano duo highly sought after by the most prestigious stages in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Anne-Sophie Pic, the world's most Michelin-starred chef, whose numerous restaurants located from Paris to Dubai, including Hong Kong, Bangkok, Shanghai, and Tokyo, reflect her inspirations and local encounters, imagines a chocolate candy. Its delicate and refined shape recalls the lightness of a scented touch grasped with fingertips. For its aromas, the chef composes a sequencing of flavors carried by saffron and marigold-passion. Elias Crespin, a contemporary artist of Venezuelan origin, whose work lies at the crossroads of kinetic art, robotics, and geometric abstraction, creates a transparent artwork whose glass elements unfold and deploy in an aerial choreography imbued with lightness.
With the complicity of director Cyril Teste and set designer Nina Chalot, Francis Kurkdjian imagines a setting where works and senses freely converse, taking visitors to the heart of a total multisensory experience that is at once sonic, tactile, gustatory, visual, and, of course, olfactory: The alchemy of senses.
Unveiled for the first time during the exhibition Perfume, Sculpture of the Invisible. 30 Years of Creations by Francis Kurkdjian, the installation will soon be presented internationally.
